Many colleges and universities are waiving SAT and ACT test scores for the upcoming school year; this means that your child’s Personal Statement and responses to school-specific Supplemental Essay Prompts are increasingly important to their college applications. College essays are the only part of the application entirely in your child’s control and are more important now than they have ever been. Are they ready?

Prof. DeBel’s 3-day, in-depth guidance of the college essay

Class structure:

This class is a deep dive into the process of writing strong college essays. We will discuss what colleges are looking for, how to make an essay stand out, the best organization for the essay, strong openings and endings, developing a strong voice, how to approach the revision process, and the like. We will do brainstorming and writing activities, discuss sample college essays that have worked for top-tier colleges, and workshop essays from the students in class. After these classes, your child will have a chance to meet individually with Professor DeBel to discuss his or her essay and receive personalized feedback. By the end of these sessions, your child will have an essay they can be proud to submit.

Saturdays, June 19th and June 26th, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm (2 1/2 hours each day), plus the one-on-one session to be scheduled in July.
